Spay/Neuter Projects

Spaying/neutering of dogs and cats is one of the only ways to humanely end future suffering of dogs and cats worldwide.

And while spay/neuters are simple and effective, two main challenges still exist: cost + (human) ignorance.

Our goal is to help fund and educate so that more cats and dogs can be spayed and neutered.

What is spay/
neuter?

Spaying (female) or Neutering (males) refers to the surgical procedure that removes certain reproductive organs of an animal in order to prevent the creation of future offspring. You may also hear the terms "sterilizing" and "castration" (usually refers to males).

Spaying/neutering of an animal is safe and effective but must be done by a certified veterinarian.

Challenges vary depending on location, but two main ones:

  • The cost of the procedure (both financially and in terms of time and resources)

  • Humans' misconceptions and ignorance regarding the procedure

  • Anecdotal evidence (e.g. "my dog changed after surgery) not based on scientific proof that then spreads

How
We
Work

We find groups around the world doing the work already and support them. Locals know the best methods and veterinarians, and we choose to trust and support their current work.

Spay/neuter projects look different depending on the location. Organizations may focus efforts on strays or offering low-cost or free procedures to current pet owners.

In addition to supporting the actual spay/neuter projects, we also work with the organizations to educate the community on the procedure and its importance. There are many mistruths and misconceptions about spay/neutering, and half the battle is educating people about the procedure.

Currently, we dedicate funds to projects...
